With One O’Clock Jump (1937), the Basie band basically laid the foundation for Jump Jazz – the orchestra leader wasn’t called The Jump King without reason. Nineteen years later, the band was involved in the launch of the Rock & Roll as the house band of the legendary Moondog Rock & Roll Parties of deejay Alan Freed.
