Jan Albert van Eijken is, just as his brother Gerrit Jan, a forgotten composer. Still, it is worth listening to his music again!
Jan Albert van Eijken was born in Amersfoort in 1822 and passed away in 1868 in Germany. He was a Dutch composer, organist and music pedagogue. He studied at the conservatoire in Leipzig and later settled in Germany, where he was active as a composer and music teacher. His work includes organ- and choral music, songs and chamber music, and shows a romantic style with influences from Mendelssohn and the German church music tradition. These days, he is pretty much forgotten and not without reason.
