Today’s Music by Today’s Composers. Australian composer David Joseph, part I

David Joseph, born in Melbourne in 1954, was not by nature a musical talent. The musical influences in his early childhood came from Russian music – Peter and the Wolf by Prokofjev, the Red Army Choir and Russian folk music and art.

At a later age, he studied composition and mainly focused on Pierre Boulez’ and Olivier Messiaen’s music. For a long time, Joseph worked as a teacher at the conservatory, where he also composed a number of works. David only officially graduated in 1996. He then began studying law. He now works as a lawyer.

In two episodes, we will focus on his chamber music and works for orchestra.
