Nordic Sounds
A stylistically diverse Folkit Nordic Sounds featuring three recent CDs from Denmark, Sweden and Finland respectively.
The Danish quartet Tirilil exists for 10 years and that is the reason why a CD was recorded by this relatively young band, consisting of three singers and an organist, with adaptations of early, traditional hymns.* Although the quartet thoroughly adapted them, the songs still sound authentic, almost devout. That is not the case with the talented Sunniva Brynnel from Sweden, even though this composer, accordionist and singer remains fairly calm.
Her melodies are pure beauty, lyrical and harmonious and executed carefully, partly thanks to the masterful Finnish pianist Timo Alakotila. And it is not just instrumental enjoyment. Vocally, Brynnel is also completely convincing with extremely pure, crystal-clear yet husky vocals. She toured around the globe, studied music in a wide range of disciplines, but has not yet achieved widespread recognition. Folkit Nordic Sounds gives her a little nudge.
That is not necessary anymore for Frigg from Finland. Only last month, you received a full hour with this band’s career overview, but we didn’t get around to the recently released new CD Dreamscape. With five songs from the recent CD we will more than make it up to you now.
