JazzNotJazz: The French Connection part 1
In JazzNotJazz, we’ve compiled a unique mix tape from a hundred years of jazz recordings, adding some meaningful and sometimes frivolous facts. As it’s also about The Soul of Jazz, there will definitely be some detours into affiliated styles. We have (irregularly) recurring elements like “Ellington Train Songs”, “Jazz Cameo’s”, “Keith Plays Miles”, “Jazz B4 ‘44” and “More is Better”.
In the month of July the programme JazzNotJazz focuses on The French Connection. Music that on the one hand could fit in the JazzNotJazz scene, and on the other has at least a tiny French connection :-). For now, we will need at least two episodes. On 12 and 26 July we have planned two non-stop episodes of an hour each with The French Connection. Examples? The original composer is a French man. But at the same time, all aspects of this song are French-tinged and have the feel and soul to belong in our programme. A few more connections: the music has been recorded in France, the band leader pronounces some French words, the guitarist is Belgian from origin but the violinist truly French. It could be a rapper and a dj, but also two French pop duos with a musical heart in the right place. An American phenomenon as an expat who remained in France. If you have any doubts about a connection, we would love to explain it. Going on a lovely holiday to France in July and August, it will get even more attractive with these two hours. All songs are ‘hors category’. To quote le Duke: “JE VOUS AIME A LA FOLIE”!
