WANDERING AROUND JEWISH MUSIC, with: Shtetl Super Stars | Roby Lakatos | Jacinta. Produced by Cobie Ivens.

I. Shtetl Super Stars. (19:20 min)
From the opening track, it’s clear this album isn’t afraid to push boundaries and recklessly blend genres. The funky basslines, jazzy horns, and ethereal vocals on display transport you to a world where anything is possible—including a bizarre yet strangely satisfying blend of Klezmer and disco. The Shtetl Super Stars’ wild ride is absolutely worth it. Buckle up, turn up the volume, and let yourself be swept away by the sheer audacity of these funky mavericks.
CD. Shtetl Super Stars – Funky Jewish sounds from around the world.

II. Roby Lakatos. (22:57 min)
He was born in 1965 into a family of Roma violinists, descendants of János Bihari, a composer who influenced Brahms and Liszt. In 1984, he won first prize for classical violin at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest. For the next ten years, he conducted the house band at a Brussels restaurant, where he was complimented by Yehudi Menuhin for his performance of a Liszt piece. In 2004, he performed with the London Symphony Orchestra at the orchestra’s Genius of the Violin festival with Maxim Vengerov.

III. Jacinta. (16:53 min)
Author, composer, arranger, actress and singer Sofía Jacinta Szlechtman was born in 1950 in Buenos Aires into a Russian-Polish-Jewish family. Jacinta was a good student at the Yiddish school, and the music teachers noticed her. She often sang as a soloist at celebrations and commemorations.
At six, she joined a choir, and at twelve, she led a small singing group playing Argentine and Yiddish music. But it was Atahualpa Yupanqui, singer of the humiliated peoples of Latin America, who marked Jacinta’s awakening to the instrument that would accompany her on stage: the guitar.
CD. Tango, mi corazon – Jacinta.
LABEL: Messidor (1990), code: 159112. VIDEO
