Sardinian folk music has influences from southern Italy (Sicily), the eastern mainland (Naples, Rome, Campania, Calabria), but also has French influences (for example, from Corsica). Several Sardinian musicians have transcended regional fame, including Tenores de Bitti, Enzo Favata, Enzo Avitabile, and, perhaps most prominently, trumpeter Paolo Fresu. However, the voice of Sardinia is singer Elena Ledda. She is therefore the dominant force in this episode’s playlist, but there is also room for her collaborations with other Sardinian, Italian, and international musicians.
