The Last Century, Wednesday August 20, 19:00 CET.
In this programme, we’ll be focusing on Grażyna Bacewicz, one of the most important composers of her generation.
The programme features various works by the Polish composer and violinist Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969). She is considered one of the most important composers of her generation and won numerous national and international awards.
You’ll hear three works from different periods: the Second Symphony (1951), the experimental Concerto for Large Symphony Orchestra (1962), and the Fifth Sonata for Violin and Piano (1951). Bacewicz’s music moves between neoclassical clarity and Polish avant-garde, and is always characterised by dramatic tension and rich timbres.
