Daan Manneke has spent his whole life seeking a connection between the present and the past, but he has also searched for gaps in time and explored the effect of acoustic spaces. Almost like a sculptor working with sounds. For example, his String Quartet ARC III is a journey through a single day, from morning to night. One of his students, as a teenager, was Marijn Simons.
In this and the following episodes, we’ll hear several commissioned works celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Ruysdael Quartet. First, Red, yellow and bluegrass by Guus Janssen, and Ruysdael, the enlightened Calvinist by Martijn Padding.
