To conclude the more than three hundred programmes devoted to the string quartet, here are two works by the compiler of the series, Leo Samama. First comes his substantial second string quartet, Le grand quatuor, followed by the Third Quartet. In both works the interplay between virtuoso outbursts and a slightly Asian lyricism is striking, all of it contained within firmly shaped structures.
