For the first time in fourteen years, a new CD has been released by Alison Krauss and the bluegrass band Union Station. This prompted programme maker and New Folk Sounds journalist Marius Roeting to feature it in two episodes of Disc-Cover!
The new CD is called Arcadia. It alternates between smooth, vibrant bluegrass tunes and captivating ballads and country songs. Krauss’s voice is a perfect fit for the somewhat melancholic songs, though she also swings vigorously in the uptempo numbers. Dan Tyminski is an excellent fingerpicker, alongside banjoist/guitarist Ron Block and the steady bassist Barry Bales. And then there’s the sublime playing of dobro player Jerry Douglas.
This is the second episode of this two-part Disc-Cover!. Just like the first episode, the playlist features tracks from the new CD, supplemented with songs from the—so far only—live CD by Alison Krauss and Union Station from 2002.
