2– Cheb Hasni. (31:46 min)
Cheb Hasni, also known as Hasni Chakroun, was an Algerian singer and rai musician. Cheb Hasni is regarded as a pioneer of rai music. He is also known as ‘le rossignol du raï’, which literally means ‘the nightingale of rai’. Both women and men sang and listened to the new sound, as raï is inextricably linked to celebrations. In this style, Cheb Hasni, along with Cheb Nasro, embodies a second generation of musicians. With love raï, or sentimental raï, Hasni sings about love, passion, and the setbacks that accompany them. With nearly 150 recorded cassettes, Cheb Hasni remains one of the most prolific and talented raï singers of his generation. In 1994, he was killed in the Gambetta district of Oran, where he had grown up. He was 26 years old.
