Our programme The Night in August (from 1:00 CET in the night between Friday 14 and Saturday 15 August) is all about musical encounters. Programmer Benno Wormgoor has once again gathered the finest and most unique duets spanning various countries, generations and cultures.
You will hear music from the Cuban duo Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo, the avant-garde collaboration between Björk and Rosalía and the musical chemistry between American roots music and Malian blues found in the work of Ry Cooder and Ali Farka Touré.
Young and old sing together—such as Shakira and Mercedes Sosa—and there are cross-border duets between icons like Cesária Évora and Compay Segundo. There are also unexpected stylistic pairings, such as the duets featuring the ethereal Persian vocals of Mahsa Vahdat and the rich American soul voice of Mighty Sam McClain.
