The circle maker. (18:52 min)
On this album, John Zorn rearranged his popular and adventurous Masada project for string trio and chamber ensemble.
The first part of this double album, Issachar, features the Masada String Trio: Mark Feldman (violin), Erik Friedlander (cello), and Greg Cohen (bass). The performances by these three virtuoso musicians shed new light on John Zorn’s collection of inspiring compositions that enrich the Jewish tradition.

Haggai Cohen-Milo. (20:50 min)
Radical Jewish Culture is the name of a CD series released on John Zorn’s Tzadik label. With this series, John Zorn aims to demonstrate that at least as much innovation takes place within traditional Jewish music as, for example, in classical music or jazz. This is right up Haggai Cohen-Milo’s alley, as innovation seems to run in his blood. The bassist grew up in Israel but moved to New York in 2009. Both worlds meet on the album Penguin, Cohen-Milo’s first album as bandleader. Sephardic and Arabic music seems to serve as inspiration in the Oriental opener Introduction, while the metropolitan swing and improvisation of the subsequent The Garden are perfectly suited for a smoky New York jazz club.
