In this second and final instalment of our seriues on Puerto Rican singer Pete ‘El Conde’ Rodrígues, Mambo explores his music from the mid-1970s onwards.

Pete was not only a singer but also a percussionist, and he particularly enjoyed taking solos on the bongó. He eventually formed his own orchestra, winning the Latin New York Award for Best New Band in 1975.

In the late 1970s, Pete began working with the renowned Tito Puente. Together, they put together two albums as a tribute to Benny Moré, one of Cuba’s most important singers. We end this hour with a track from those albums.
