Autumn

wed 28 oct 2026
Theme: Early Music
In the edition of *Early Delights* airing on Thursday, October 29th, the autumn month of October is explored in all its variety. Revelry, wine, the hunt, and the shortening days inspired Baroque composers to create vibrant, colourful music.
The programme ranges from autumn scenes by Giovanni Antonio Guido and a tribute to Bacchus by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, to musical depictions of October by Gregor Joseph Werner and Christopher Simpson.
In between, Nicolas Chédeville offers a unique take on music by Antonio Vivaldi, featuring the hurdy-gurdy.
We begin the hour with Giovanni Antonio Guido, an Italian violinist and composer who worked in Paris. Like his contemporary Antonio Vivaldi, he brought all four seasons to life through music. His portrayal of autumn unfolds through scenes of revelry, the tranquility of sleep, and, finally, the hunt.
Performers include the Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal conducted by Andrés Gabetta, baritone Marc Mauillon, Ensemble Danguy led by Tobie Miller, and the ensemble Les Lucioles.
