In the Jazz ‘International Vocal’ category, the Edison goes to Kenny Barron for the album Songbook.
Highlights from the jury report:
On Songbook, legendary pianist Kenny Barron fulfills a long-held wish to set his instrumental compositions to lyrics. Janice Jarrett’s lyrics blend seamlessly with the melodic and harmonic richness of the original compositions, adding a new dimension to Barron’s work. The pieces are performed by an impressive lineup of vocalists. Songbook thus serves as a compelling showcase of the art of jazz vocals, spanning both contemporary and traditional styles.
