On Thursday 15th May, the Early Delights from the Middle Ages will be performed.
The month of May is the month of spring, full of bird sounds, and at the same time the month of May is the month of Mary, dedicated to the mother of Jesus.
Spring and love are sung by Bernard de Ventadorn in his song “Can vei la lauzeta mover”, “Als ik de lakkerik zie vliegen”, and in songs by Claude Le Jeune. The performers are Ensemble für Frühe Musik Augsburg and Ensemble Gilles Binchois conducted by Dominique Vellard.
We honour Mary with anonymous songs, including those from the ‘Cantigas de Santa Maria’, the collection compiled by Alfonso the Wise, King of Castile and León. These songs are performed by Capella de Ministrers conducted by Carles Magraner and Ensemble Unicorn.
