Dancing music from Magyarpalatka Episode 2

Tonight, the instrumental and dancing music from Magyarpalatka, a small town in Transylvania, Romania, where many Hungarians and Gypsies reside. Magyarpalatka was mentioned for the first time in written sources in 1296 and was part of Hungary until 1920. Throughout the centuries, a unique mix of Romanian, Gypsy, Hungarian music developed here, with even some Saxon influences.

In this second episode of our programmes on Mgyarpalatka, we’ll continue listening to field recordings, released in Hungary by Hungaroton Classic in 1996, entitled “Hungarian Folk Music from Transylvanian Heath”. Afterwards,we will be listening to recordings Crispijn Oomes made in Magyarpalatka, which he released in the Netherlands through the label Syncoop Recordings, entitled “Hungarian Folk Music from Transilvani”.
