Music selected by Fie Schouten and Tobias Klein, both (bass) clarinettists. Fie mainly performs contemporary compositions, while Tobias is more active in the improvisation scene. The biennial Basklarinet Festijn is their joint initiative — a series of concerts and workshops, including new and commissioned works, taking place at various venues through 2026. You can listen to some of their ‘desert island discs’ in this episode, as well as the premiere of the new album by the group Spinifex, in which Tobias plays saxophone and bass clarinet.
The complete conversation with Fie Schouten and Tobias Klein is available in two earlier episodes of the podcast Muziekmakers Der Nederlanden. In this podcast, the Concertzender and New Music Now present musical portraits of creators, composers and musicians in the Netherlands based on their ‘desert island discs’ — the pieces of music they would love to share with the whole world and that play an important role in their work and lives.
