Jungle by Night’s music is mostly instrumental and consists of a mix of different styles inspired by funk, jazz, dub and rock. The album The Hunt (from 2014) broadens Jungle By Night’s horizons further, expect not only the characteristic unique mix of afro funk and jazz but also a good dose of hip hop, psychedelica and rock. The reviews were all positive and emphasize that the album The Hunt is rougher than the previous albums.

The young Emmanuel Dibango († 2020) was sent by his parents from Cameroon to France at a young age to follow a technical education. In Paris and Brussels in the fifties, the young Manu became acquainted with blues and jazz. He studied classical piano before switching to the saxophone. Upon returning to his native country, he managed to combine his love of jazz with African folk music. In 1972, Manu Dibango personally ensured that interest in African music arose in the Western world with the album Soul Mokassa. Manu’s never-ending musical curiosity ensured that even influences from reggae and hip hop ended up in his music.

Three famous Rai singers take the stage together, sing each other’s songs and thus create a grand musical happening. In September 1998, a concert took place in Paris in which the ‘king of Rai’ Cheb Khaled performed together with Rachid Taha and Faudel. Khaled made his international breakthrough in 1985 and moved to France for good the following year. Khaled is the one who transformed the traditional Algerian Rai genre into a pop genre that became popular worldwide. The Algerian Rachid Taha was also in France with his Rai-influenced Arabic rock music. The youngest of the three Rai singers is the French-born Faudel, who was impressed by Rai music, specialized in it and is very popular.

Eritrea is back. After thirty years of war with Ethiopia and a decade of isolation, the Asmara All Stars introduce some of the best musicians and vocalists from Eritrea. Eritrea has been almost cut off from most outside influences since the early 70s. The Asmara All Star project is all about leaving politics behind and focusing on making exciting music. At first, French producer Bruno Blum had a hard time getting the ball rolling, but eventually more and more musicians got excited about his unusual approach and talent started to flow into the studio.

New Age is a style of music that, similar to the New Age movement in general, emerged in the early 80s and aims to relax the listener by means of instrumental and vocal melodies. The songs, based on the softer types of classical music, jazz and folk, can last for a very long time and usually have a quiet, calming atmosphere. Non-Western world music is also a source from which aspects are taken over such as drone, Tibetan singing bowls and samples of Chinese and Japanese music or other Eastern music types such as Gamelan or Indian music.

Founded in 1973, when Björn Skifs, a top singer in Sweden, was looking for a band to accompany him during his concerts. The variety of saxophones, percussion and vocals, complete with answering/accompanying backing singers, is great. Percussion and harmonica are the instruments used in this song.
