Irie Riddims

In the previous episode, we listened to music by Alton Ellis, who made his breakthrough in the 1960s with ska and rocksteady music: the precursors of reggae.

These days, plenty of ska is still being made. In the early 1980s — during the punk era — there was also a real ska craze in the United Kingdom.

One of the newer ska artists is Alpheus, whose real name is Neil Martin. He was born in London to Jamaican parents.

In 1997, whilst staying in Florida, he was discovered by Tony Brevett of The Melodians. Through Brevett, he came into contact with the legendary reggae producer Clement Dodd. This led to the release of his first CD in 1999 by Studio One in New York, produced by Dodd.

In 2014, Good Prevails was released on the Spanish label Liquidator Music, and was produced by Roberto Sánchez, with whom he had already been working for several years. He continues to collaborate with Sánchez and Lone Ark Riddim Force.
