JazzNotJazz

sat 24 may 2025 12:00 hrs

In JazzNotJazz, we’ve compiled a unique mix tape from a hundred years of jazz recordings, adding some meaningful and sometimes frivolous facts. As it’s also about The Soul of Jazz, there will definitely be some detours into affiliated styles. We have (irregularly) recurring elements like “Ellington Train Songs”, “Jazz Cameo’s”, “Keith Plays Miles”, “Jazz B4 ‘44” and “More is Better”.

The thread running through our setlist today, are the rhythms, as well as two new releases from 2024. This time, Sam and Sam with a Monty Python coconut (horse galloping) rhythm. James Brown’s trombonist with his own number (and in the background clearly the boss). Tito Rodriguez with a special recommendation from Wynton Marsalis. We’ve got a ‘Keith Jarrett plays Miles Davis’! Or actually, Cannonball Adderley:-). We end with our Swiss friend, who keeps his own set-up interesting time and time again. We think so anyway.

Track 01: Sonny Rollins, Grand Street

Track 02: Sam Gendel & Sam Wilkes, BEN HUR

Track 03: Fred Wesley & The J.B.’s, I’m Paying Taxes, What Am I Buying

Track 04: Tito Rodriguez, Como Mi Ritmo No Hay Dos

Track 05: Keith Jarrett, Autumn Leaves

Track 06: Cannonball Adderley, Autumn Leaves

Track 07: Nik Bärtsch, Modul 70_51
