In her work, Jana Irmert combines manipulated field recordings and sampled material into entirely new soundscapes. Messengers is the soundtrack for Jeffrey Zablotny’s film of the same name: a poetic exploration of three underground observatories, hidden deep beneath Canada, Japan and Antarctica. End Of Absence was her debut album from 2016.
S.E.T.I. stands for Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence (but, in 2024, it changed to Self Extermination of Terrestrial Inhabitants). The title of this 2018 album — Sleep Environments For Interplanetary Travel — tells you everything else you need to know about the music.
The music of Japanese artist Chihei Hatakeyama often draws you into a meditative, Zen-like state. Or, in this case, it feels as though you are being enveloped by dense fog. The track “Ongaku” was originally written for a 24-channel sound system.
Listening Mirror is the British artist Jeff Stonehouse (also known as jffstnhs). The two compositions featured in this broadcast come from his 2010 debut album and from an EP released a year later.
