Musical tributes
Morton Feldman composed his orchestra piece Coptic Light in 1985, for which he drew inspiration from Coptic carpets he had seen in the Louvre.
Toru Takemitsu (picture) follows with his orchestral work Twill by Twilight (1988). He composed it in memoriam to Feldman, who passed away in 1987. Twill is a weaving technique which creates a diagonal ribbed pattern in the fabric.
Takemitsu passed away in 1996. For Toshio Hosokawa, this was the inspiration for Concerto for cello and orchestra ‘in memoriam Toru Takemitsu’.
