Worlds Apart: Stockhausen and Glass
Karlheinz Stockhausen, one of the leading figures of musical modernism, was far from impressed by Philip Glass’s music. Glass was equally unimpressed by Stockhausen. Indeed, partly in reaction to Stockhausen’s highly systematic music of the 1950s, Glass helped develop minimal music in the 1960s, following Terry Riley’s lead and working alongside Steve Reich. The result was a musical approach that stood in stark contrast to Stockhausen’s aesthetic.
This edition of Nowadays brings these two musical opposites together.
