Music from Turkey | India | Andalusia, by: Istanbul Oriental Ensemble; Hariprasad Chaurasia & Zakir Hussain; Eduardo Paniagua, produced by CobieIvens
I– Istanbul Oriental Ensemble. (21:18 min)
The ensemble plays slow pieces that evoke the tiring journey of the thirsty camels through the seemingly endless desert. For the first time, the group also plays mystical songs that evoke the colors of the sunset.
The album is dedicated to the memory of Ferdi Nardaz, one of Roma’s finest clarinetists, who tragically passed away shortly after completing these recordings. He can be heard playing the kaval flute, the sounds of which he modulated so brilliantly. A solo by band leader and master percussionist Burhan Öçal, in which his fingers fly as if by magic over the heads of his darabukka.

II– Hariprasad Chaurasia & Zakir Hussain. (22:54 min)
Hariprasad Chaurasia (1938) is considered a master on the bansuri, the Indian bamboo flute. Initially, Chaurasia seemed set to become a professional wrestler just like his father. The flutist says he owes his endurance and blowing strength to the wrestling training in his youth. Chaurasia plays the classical music of Northern India, but also makes film music and has also collaborated with Western artists.
The preeminent classical tabla virtuoso of our time, Zakir Hussain is recognized both within the percussion world and the wider music world as an international phenomenon and one of the world’s most esteemed and influential musicians.

III– Eduardo Paniagua. (15:11 min)
