In the sixties, a new kind of country music was born in Texas. At least, compared to the commercial, polished country coming out of Nashville at the time. You had Willie Nelson (along with Waylon Jennings and others) launching the grittier ‘outlaw country,’ while in Houston, a younger generation of singer-songwriters was busy turning songwriting into an art form.
