It has been 150 years since the birth of Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875–1911). Throughout Europe, concerts are taking place to celebrate the occasion. His work will be at the centre of attention at Festival Vocallis from 17 October to 2 November 2025 in South Limburg, the Netherlands. In this hour, you’ll hear a sneak preview of works that will be performed at the festival.
Čiurlionis’ work has been performed in the Netherlands before – as recently as 2024 at the Oranjewoud Festival in Heerenveen – yet he remains relatively unknown. In addition to more than 300 compositions, he also produced over 300 paintings. But today, we’ll listen to his music.
