Wandering around Jewish music

sun 15 nov 2026 17:00 hrs

Music from the Balkans, France and The Netherlands with: Max Pashm | Duo Peylet – Cuniot | Niki Jacobs & Jason Sypher, produced by Cobie Ivens

I– Max Pashm. (18:35 min)
The combination of traditional musicians with Max’s energetic electronic beats, percussion, and vocals creates a powerful and rousing blend of the old and the new. Beyond these traditional influences, the album also incorporates elements of dub, ska, hip-hop, rock, and punk—a fusion of diverse genres and styles that results in a unique sound and a distinctive energy. Max Pashm draws inspiration from European traditions such as klezmer, Greek rebetika, and Gypsy music—much in the same vein as Shantel and the Amsterdam Klezmer Band.

II– Duo Peylet – Cuniot. (19:43 min)
The French duo Nano Peylet (clarinet) and Denis Cuniot (piano) is known for their profound interpretation of traditional Jewish music. The duo’s passion for Klezmer and related musical forms shines through, highlighting the beauty of traditional melodies and the expressive potential of the clarinet. Although neither artist is of Jewish descent, they are deeply committed to exploring this cultural tradition and sharing it with a diverse audience. Their goal is to see Klezmer music evolve into a global source of inspiration for musicians, drawing parallels to the improvisational nature of jazz.

III– Niki Jacobs & Jason Sypher. (20:52 min)
Niki Jacobs is the singer and the face of the band Nikitov, a group that focuses primarily on Yiddish-oriented music. Together with bassist Jason Sypher, she wrote and arranged the six compositions that make up the album *Witness*. The first track, for instance, features the trumpet of Ben Holmes—offering a preview of the two upcoming concerts scheduled with trumpeter Eric Vloeimans—while the second track demonstrates how perfectly John Singer’s marimba fits into the music of Jacobs and Sypher. Niki Jacobs’ vocals then elevate the entire experience to an even higher level.
