In this episode, a piece of American music history from the early 20th century. The quest for new sounds and for ‘own’ music is not proving easy. The influence from Europe (mainly from the Germanic branch) on classical music and not having an American tradition present difficult hurdles. Still, American sounds are slowly emerging from the melting pot of cultures.
Today, we will focus on two composers: Charles Tomlinson Griffes (1884-1920) and John Alden Carpenter (1876-1951).
