Singer and poet Walid Ben Selim and Jaber Fayad are guests on Acoustic Roots. This episode is a repeat of the programme originally broadcast on 16 February 2018 and recorded at the Kargadoor in Utrecht.
Singer, poet and advocate of freedom Walid Ben Selim was born in Casablanca, the capital of Morocco, where he was active in the local hip-hop scene for many years. He now lives in France and is the frontman of the successful band N3rdistan. With the band, he sings and raps his own lyrics as well as poetry by renowned Arab poets. Drawing on timeless texts about freedom, he creatis a distinctive muiscal universe that bring East and West together.

Jaber Fayad started playing the ud at a young age. He studied Azerbaijani muisc with Askar Ali Akbar, Arabic music with Isam Rafei and Turkish music with Ayman Aljesri. He studied at the Damascus Conservatory in Syria.

Last year, Walid Ben Selim performed during the Cultural Sunday event “Utrecht Centraal” at TivoliVredenburg (modern music complex and concert venue located in the center of Utrecht, Netherlands). He also appeared on the Concertzender stage, wher ehe made a lasting impression with his beautiful voice.
He has a close working relationship with musiciand from the Kytopia collective in Utrecht. In November 2017, he returned to the Netherlands for the festival Arabic Poetry meet Kytopia II.
