In deze aflevering van Sonoor staat de relatie leermeester–leerling centraal, met muziek van Darius Milhaud en Pierre-Max Dubois. Van Milhaud horen we Le carnaval d’Aix (1926), een sprankelend werk waarin Zuid-Franse lichtheid samengaat met scherpe harmonieën en ritmische energie. Ook klinkt zijn compacte Symphonie de chambre nr. 6, een experimentele miniatuur voor woordloos vocaal kwartet, hobo en cello, waarin stemmen puur als klank functioneren.
Pierre-Max Dubois, leerling van Milhaud aan het Conservatoire de Paris, ontwikkelde een modern maar toegankelijk idioom waarin vakmanschap, melodie en uitvoerbaarheid centraal staan. Dat is hoorbaar in zijn Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra uit 1959 en in drie Études de concert voor piano.
