Vangelis
This episode of Electronic Frequencies is dedicated to the Greek composer, musician, and multi-instrumentalist Vangelis (Evanghelos Odysseas Papathanasiou, 1943-2022).
The compiler of this episode has long wanted to create a broadcast about this iconic artist. But how do you choose music from a composer of such worldwide fame, whose greatest works are widely recognized? Perhaps not always by title (a common issue with instrumental music), but certainly by melody. That’s why this selection focuses on lesser-known pieces.
Notably, this episode features two longer compositions — ‘Invisible Connections’ and ‘Beaubourg Part II’— which stand out as they are less characteristic of Vangelis’ typical style. Finally, no tribute would be complete without one of his most famous works: the iconic title track from the film Blade Runner.
Enjoy listening!
