Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude. French music for wind instruments.
Almost a century after their creation in the bustling Paris of the early 20th century, Radio Romantica will broadcast a number of delightful works for wind instruments occasionally accompanied by piano.
The Société de musique de chambre pour instruments à vent from the French capital was primarily responsible for a tsunami of works for wind instruments. In addition, the various instrument makers made significant improvements to the horns, which suddenly made the public take them much more seriously.
You will hear music by Roussel, d’Indy, Caplet and Pierné, played by the Viotta Ensemble, an ensemble that consists entirely of active or retired musicians from the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
